Who would I contact to find out when the next tax lien auction is? What position in the local government would know? Thanks in advance.

You would not have to contact anyone. Just check your local newspaper. 30 days before the auction starts, they will post a notice of sale to the public.
Contact the tax collector’s office.
Tax sales are announced in the local paper, but not necessarily a major local paper. They’re usually published in whatever paper in general circulation is the cheapest, not the best known. The tax collector’s office can tell you which paper to look for the announcements in.
